Statement

Studying Architecture in both combined University of Manchester and Metropolitan will allow me to express my creativity and awareness through various projects. I believe that using the facilities and working in both departments will provide better teachings and will develop my skills in the field of Architecture than any other universities. The Manchester school of architecture has always been ranked among the top best universities in the UK and has a long and noble history which excites me to acknowledge and explore more of the history through this challenging course. The opportunity of studying abroad enlivens me to further my understandings, experience and adapt different cultural traditions.

Recently, I visited Ian Simpson’s Urbis which re-opened in 2012 as a National Football Museum. Before, the Urbis was a museum venue and would exhibit cultural themes such as art, fashion, photography, gigs, urban living and special events. The building increases its energy efficiency by using an adiabatic cooling system and heat recovery system for the use in summer and winter. The part of the building that inspires me is the exterior part that consists of 2,200 glass panels. The surroundings are reflected by the glass panels that create a vibrant atmosphere, attracting people to visit and admire its simplicity of the building. I am enthused by the artist works and the way he uses simple shapes to make it look appealing, hence, i have used his ideas on my artwork.

Santiago Calatrava Valls is one of my favorite artists and I tend to admire his work a lot. The Spanish architect also specializes in structural engineer and sculpture. His early career began with the dazzling bridges that have set to new heights in the field of structural and civil engineering. From then on, the fusion of architecture and sculpture has produced plenty of ambitious amounts of work and achieving international awards. His significant projects include; Auditorio de Tenerife, Chords bridge and City of Arts and Science. I am fascinated by these architectural designs and it encourages me to use his ideas and technical abilities to further my creativity skills.

The Lyon Airport station designed by Santiago Calatrava is one of the buildings that I would like to experience in person. The airport is linked to the train station with TGV trains going to Marseille and Paris. Structure of this airport is based on two massive steel arches which expresses of a bird, the two main arches coming together at the birds beak also creates a remarkable profile. The conveying structures and shapes interest me the most and have developed my knowledge in the field of structural architecture.
